This laptop does everything it's suppose to do. The plastic case is sturdy and the screen is well lit. If you're into basic computing (word processing, internet surfing, and light business use)then this is good one. The brushed finish looks great, but fingerprints and smudges are very noticeable. The touchpad has a good feel, but the buttons for the touchpad seem weak. Asus makes great products and this is no exception. I installed a 120GB SSD so it runs very fast! My biggest problem with this computer is it's compatibility with a Ubuntu OS. I despise Microsoft, so I can't comment on the operating system that came with it (Win 7 Pro I think)- I didn't even try it. I opened the box and tried to install Ubuntu 10.04 right away. With Ubuntu 10.04 the Intel HD 3000 graphics card became an issue- it was stuck on a very low resolution that I could not change because a driver was not available. I checked the Intel site and they offer Linux drivers that you must compile yourself- what a pain! I don't mind compiling drivers if I really think it's necessary, but in this case I wanted to try different a route. I installed Ubuntu 11.04 then 12.04... Read more |
